Description
Dill
is a annual plant having a Green and leaflike in appearance or
texture. With leaves Resembling a feather divided on each side. The
light brown ripe seeds emit an aromatic odour. The leaves with
pleasant aromatic odour has a warm taste. Both seeds and leaves are
used as spice.
Origin and Distribution
The
Indian dill (Anetheum sowa), is a native of Northern India is
bolder than the European counterpart. It is grown as a cold weather
crop in many parts of India. European Dill (Anetheum graveolens) is
indigenous to Europe and is cultivated in England,
Turkey,
USA ,Germany, Romania, and Russia.
Uses
Dill
seeds are used both as whole or in ground form as a condiment in
soups, processed meats, sausages, salads and pickling. The stems
and blossom heads are used in making dill pickles. The essential
oil from Dill is used in the manufacture of soaps. Both seeds and
oil are used in indigenous medicinal preparations. The emulsion of
dill oil in water is an aromatic carminative.
